The Rough Guide To Astor Piazzolla

Astor Piazzolla
Audio CD: FDO 2005-02-07
Label: World Music Network
"Astor Piazzolla is arguably the greatest tango musician of all time and, from the 1950s onwards, he continued to experiment to test the limits of the genre. A virtuoso on the bandoneón, a brilliant composer, arranger and bandleader, Piazzolla conjured a sound that fused the evolutionary tangos of Aníbal Troilo, jazz, ambient and classical avant-garde aberrations. This CD To Astor Piazzolla is a soundtrack to the teeming city of Buenos Aires – peopled by colourful characters and incredible stories – and reflects his remarkable lifetime achievement. Enjoy!......at 256.0 kb/sec!"

The Rough Guide To Tango Nuevo

Various
Audio CD: FDO 2004-08-31
Label: World Music Network
"The "Rough Guide To Tango Nuevo" showcases the diverse fragmentation of styles that tango has been experiencing since the death of Astor Piazzolla, the last greatest innovator. New artists are revolutionising tango from within, forging an urban folk style for their own times and lives. ‘Nuevo’ (or ‘New’) tango moves through dark-hued dub tango, tango electronica, tango with a sassy salsa twist, and even grungy tango for the rock generation. Today, contemporary tango, though still firmly rooted in the mordant, melancholy soul of the urban Argentinean, adds newly imported sounds and ideas into the mix, and the results are as stirring as they were a century ago. Enjoy!......at 128.0 kb/sec!"
