Label: World Music Network
"The 1920's and early 1930's was the great era of Jazz. This album spans the period, showcasing the big names, as well as some lesser known gems. If you're trying to build a collection of classic jazz, start here. Along with the usual King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton tracks, this also has Pinetop Smith's "Pinetop's Boogie Woogie," the first example of the genre on record, as well as the original Victor recording of Duke Ellington's "Creole Love Call" with Adelaide Hall. The only fly in the ointment is that these recordings are culled from Robert Parker's reissues, which are controversial in the way that they reprocess old recorded sound. If you're a purist, you may eventually replace this CD in your collection, but it is a wonderful way to start!......... at 128 kbps!"
