"Andre Rieu is a beloved star in continental Europe and thanks to Public Television, he's become a household name in the United States as well. He seems to have a variety of fans from straight classical lovers to pop music lovers and all sorts of fans in between. The reason for his appeal is easy. He's a great musician and knows a thing or two about showmanship and it seems to have an appeal. He combines the world of classical music, opera, Broadway, and pop culture and comes up with an entertaining blend of music not all that unlike his idol, Johann Strauss who did similar musical tricks in his day. My guess is that this will be a popular selection this holiday season and in the years to come. Since Rieu is true to tradition while having a contemporary appeal, Rieu's Christmas music could be regarded like the Christmas collections by the Boston Pops under the direction of Arthur Fielder and become as familiar as some of these classic arrangements. "CD compliations for charity are often ho-humm, it seems that producers just ask for songs record companies/artist can spare and release it. But, this CD is something else. Most (not all) of the songs are great interpretation of Christmas classics and almost all have great sound. Personal favorites are Boys II Men's "Silent Night", Tony Benett's "Winter Wonderland", and Luther Vandross "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". However, the cut above every song is not really a Christmas song but Barbra Streisand's 60's rendition of "Our Father". Too bad the audio of the "Lord's Prayer" isn't really "good" but the song, the arrangement and Barbra's voice will make up for it. If you're just going to buy one Christmas CD, buy this one - and help at the same time... Enjoy!......at 320.0 kb/sec!"

"The second disc of Christmas Hits is more laid back, with classics from Bing Crosby, Elvis and Tony Bennett mingled with some soulful covers of traditional songs like "Silent Night" and modern classics such as "Last Christmas" and "Walking in the Air". Unfortunately, both of the latter are tortured by Human Nature and Declan Galbraith respectively, and its here that the compilation starts to fall apart. Some of the covers are interesting, but often they highlight just how much better the originals were. There have been plenty of great versions of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", not to mention the original so why do we get Michael Bolton? The inclusion of Eva Cassidy's "Over the Rainbow" is also a little confusing. It's poignant sure, but since when has it been associated with Christmas? Still, there's plenty here to keep you amused until its time to put the baubles and tinsel back in the loft. Enjoy!......at 320.0 kb/sec!"

"Many of these songs have been taken from Christmas albums by the individual artists - and have been very well chosen - but there are also tracks by the Mavericks (Santa Claus is back in town), Gary Allen (Please come home for Christmas) and Tracy Byrd (Christmas like Mama used to make it), none of whom have yet recorded a Christmas album. The songs here are a well-balanced mix of the familiar standards and some original songs. The original songs include the tracks by George Strait, Tracy Byrd and the Tractors. Of the standards, Reba's cover of Away in a manger (the most traditional-sounding song here in what is mostly typical nineties country) is my favorite, but every track is excellent.
